Shanghai is busy, noisy and dusty. Nonetheless there are several safe places you can enjoy as a family - especially with toddlers
Green and Garden pleaseYou will find a very nice park north of the HuangPu River in the Hong Kou district. Our recommendation is to enter from the South Gate and firstly stroll around the park. As in any other Chinese Park you can enjoy every day sceneries such as water character writing or the Chinese version of square dance.
At the northern part of the park a boat rental is located. For some Kuais you are allowed to steer an electrical boat around the artificial lake. It's fun as you get to wear neon orange life vests - I hope this color suits you. Maybe you are lucky enough and get to catch the tank - alike boat.
Near to the southern entrance a small kids fun park is open year round. The kids will love the rides. Watch out! They might not look fast, but they are.

Shopping Mall ActionThere must be thousands of Shopping Malls in Shanghai, but this one has a special treat: A ferries wheel. Its built on top of the mall and you can enjoy a nice view of the city. There are also several restaurants on top of the mall which is a nice change to the usual basement food courts. As Shanghai is changing super fast, I will not recommend a specific restaurant. But if you have recently visited and would like to make a recommendation, please leave a comment.

If you are looking for a huge outdoor playground, Paulaner Expo is the place to go (be careful to pick the right Paulaner as they have several places around the city). The food is also quite good - if you are in the mood for German style sausages.

http://www.bln-restaurants.comIndoor insights Oftentimes you have to spend indoor time - be it due to air pollution, rainy season or hot, hot summer days. Of course you could go into one the many indoor playgrounds, but if you fancy a change: how about bowling? Hao's Bowling has special kids lanes which are shorter. It's also fun for the parents and for sure quality time you can spend as a family.
